Supported Formats

Audio Formats

  • MP3 Most popular audio format with robust tag support (ID3v1 and ID3v2)
  • WAV Uncompressed high-quality audio with basic metadata support
  • OGG Open-source format using Vorbis Comments for metadata
  • FLAC Lossless compression format with excellent metadata support
  • AAC Advanced audio coding format often used by Apple
  • M4A Apple audio container format with iTunes-style metadata

Artwork Formats

For album artwork, we support the following image formats:

  • JPEG Best for photographs, offers good compression
  • PNG Ideal for graphics with transparency support
  • GIF Basic support for simple images (non-animated)

Note: Album artwork should ideally be square (1:1 aspect ratio) and at least 500×500 pixels for optimal display on most devices and media players.

Detailed Step-by-Step Process

Step 1: Uploading Files

Start by navigating to the Upload page. You'll see a drag-and-drop area where you can either:

Option A: Click the area to open a file browser and select up to 5 audio files.

Option B: Drag and drop files directly from your computer into this area.

Important: Each file must be under 50MB. If you have larger files, consider using our Android app which doesn't have this limitation.

After selecting your files, you'll see them listed below the upload area. Click the "Upload Files" button to begin the upload process.

A progress bar will appear showing the upload status. Once all files are uploaded, you'll be automatically redirected to the Edit page.

Step 2: Editing Tags

On the Edit page, you'll see each uploaded file displayed in its own section. For each file, you can modify:

Basic Information:

  • Title: Name of the track
  • Artist: Performer/creator of the track
  • Album: Name of the album

Additional Details:

  • Year: Release year
  • Genre: Musical style/category
  • Track/Disc No: Position in album
  • BPM: Beats per minute
  • Composer: Who wrote the music
  • Comments: Any additional notes

You can also add or replace album artwork by clicking the "Upload artwork" button or by dragging an image file onto the artwork section.

Tip: If editing multiple files from the same album, you can enable "Bulk Edit Mode" to apply the same changes to all files at once.

Step 3: Saving Changes

After you've made all your desired changes, click the "Save Changes" button at the bottom of the page. This will start the process of applying your modifications to the files.

During this process, our service:

  • Processes each file and applies the new metadata
  • Embeds any album artwork you've added
  • Prepares the modified files for download

A progress indicator will show the status of this process. For most files, this takes just a few seconds, but larger files or multiple files may take longer.

Step 4: Downloading Modified Files

Once processing is complete, you'll be redirected to the Download page where you'll see all your modified files ready for download.

Each file will have a "Download" button. Click the button to save the modified file to your computer.

Important: Download links expire after 30 minutes, and all your files are automatically deleted from our servers after this time. Make sure to download your files before the links expire.

After downloading, you can either:

  • Click "Edit More Tags" to start a new editing session
  • Close the page if you're finished

Batch Editing Multiple Files

Batch editing allows you to apply the same tags to multiple files simultaneously, which is especially useful for album tracks that share information like artist, album, and year.

How to Use Batch Editing:

  1. Upload multiple files (up to 5) using the upload page
  2. On the Edit page, check the "Apply to All" option above the file editors
  3. When this option is enabled, only the first file's form will be visible
  4. Enter the common tags that should apply to all files (artist, album, etc.)
  5. If you add album artwork, it will be applied to all files
  6. Click "Save Changes" to apply these tags to all selected files

Pro Tip: For a complete album, upload all tracks, use batch edit for common information (artist, album, genre, year), then disable batch edit to set individual track titles and track numbers.

Album Artwork Guide

Artwork Best Practices

  • Size: 500×500 pixels or larger (1000×1000px is ideal for high-resolution displays)
  • Format: JPEG for photographs, PNG for graphics with transparency
  • Aspect Ratio: 1:1 (square) for best compatibility with media players
  • File Size: Under 2MB for optimal processing
  • Quality: Clear, high-quality images with no pixelation or blurring

How Artwork Is Stored

Different audio formats store artwork in different ways:

  • MP3: Artwork is stored in the ID3v2 tag as an APIC frame
  • FLAC: Stored as PICTURE metadata block
  • M4A/AAC: Stored in the 'covr' atom within the metadata
  • OGG: Uses the METADATA_BLOCK_PICTURE field in Vorbis Comments
  • WAV: Limited support in ID3 or LIST-INFO chunk

Finding Good Album Artwork

If you need to find album artwork for your music files, here are some suggested methods:

  • 1. Official Sources: The artist's or record label's official website often has high-quality album art available.
  • 2. Music Databases: Sites like MusicBrainz, Discogs, or Last.fm maintain extensive artwork collections.
  • 3. Digital Music Stores: iTunes, Amazon Music, or Google Play Music often display album artwork that you can save.
  • 4. Image Search: Search for "[album name] [artist] album cover" on Google Images or similar search engines.

Important: Always respect copyright when using album artwork. Ideally, only use artwork for albums you have purchased or have rights to.

Tips and Tricks

Organization Tips

  • Consistent Naming Conventions

Use consistent capitalization and formatting for artist names and album titles to keep your library organized.

  • Use Track Numbers Properly

For albums, always include the track number to ensure proper ordering in media players.

  • Include Year Information

Adding the release year helps distinguish between different versions or remasters of the same album.

  • Be Specific with Genres

Use specific genre tags rather than general ones (e.g., "Progressive Rock" instead of just "Rock").

  • Use Comments for Additional Info

The comments field is great for additional information like recording location, version details, or personal notes.

Power User Tips

  • Keyboard Shortcuts

Use Tab to quickly navigate between form fields while editing tags.

  • Drag and Drop Anywhere

You can drag files directly onto the upload area or drag artwork images directly onto the artwork section.

  • Batch Processing Strategy

For an album, first batch edit common fields, then individually edit track-specific information like title and track number.

  • Optimize Artwork Size

Resize large images to around 1000×1000 pixels before uploading to improve processing speed.

  • Browser Compatibility

Use Chrome, Firefox, or Edge for the best experience with our editor. Safari has some limitations with file handling.

Troubleshooting

Upload Issues

Problem: Files won't upload or uploads are slow

Possible solutions:

  • Ensure your file is under 50MB in size
  • Check if the file format is supported (MP3, WAV, OGG, FLAC, M4A, AAC)
  • Try a different browser (Chrome or Firefox recommended)
  • Check your internet connection stability
  • Try uploading one file at a time

Editing Problems

Problem: Changes don't save or artwork doesn't appear

Possible solutions:

  • Make sure your artwork file is in JPEG, PNG, or GIF format
  • Ensure artwork is less than 2MB in size
  • If a specific field isn't saving, try simplifying the text (some characters might cause issues)
  • Check if you're using valid values (e.g., year should be a number)
  • Try refreshing the page and re-uploading if all else fails

Download Issues

Problem: Download links not working or files won't download

Possible solutions:

  • Check if the download link has expired (links expire after 30 minutes)
  • Make sure you have sufficient disk space on your device
  • Try a different browser if downloads fail
  • Disable any download managers or browser extensions that might interfere
  • Check your internet connection

Playback After Editing

Problem: Edited files don't show new tags in your media player

Possible solutions:

  • Refresh your media library or restart your media player
  • Some players cache information and need to be refreshed manually
  • Check if your media player supports the tag format being used
  • Try playing the file in a different media player to verify the tags are correctly saved
